Culture
Since the times of the Spanish conquistadors, there has been the idea to eliminate the Ngobe bloodline. Like many other indigenous groups, the Ngobe people have been obliged to move to remote locations with difficult access. Because of this, Ngobe society still encompasses a rich traditional culture that has been preserved outside of the strong pressure of Panamanian (Western) culture.
A depressed economy, lack of access to health care, substandard housing, lack of government services and advanced technology are modern day problems within the Comarca Ngobe-Bugle
In more recent times, there have been initiatives for the development of the Ngobe language and bilingual education in schools, as well as, education for the teaching of the Ngobe language in schools.
Handcrafts
